Extended Profile Search
online only

Welcome to the Search page. This page will allow you to view profiles of members based on selection criteria which you provide.

Find someone who looks interesting and introduce yourself! We are all glad you are here and we share with you an interest in research ethics. As many of us have academic career goals similar to yours, we look forward to meeting you. Moreover, the search function is our primary method of finding each other. So, don't be shy.

There are many ways to contact another member within the Community. The methods include IM (instant message), email, chat and sending a Friend request. The Friend category is an easy way to keep track of and communicate with members with whom you frequently communicate.

To Display all Community members: Click on the "Search" button above or on the bottom of the screen. A complete set of profiles for all members should appear. If you only want to view the profiles of members who are currently online, select the "online only" checkbox.

To Display Community members based on selection criteria: Select categorical search criteria for which you want to view member's profiles, including institution, discipline, primary language, etc. You can specify the criteria for as many categories as you want. Click on the "Search" button above or on the bottom of the screen. If you only want to view the profiles of members who are currently online, select the "online only" checkbox. To clear the criteria selections you have made at any time, hit the "Reset" button . To make multiple selections for one category with a list nox, hold down the Ctrl key while making a selection.

To locate mentors: First, search for a FACULTY MENTOR. Find the boxes below labelled "Discipline" and "Institution." In each one, use your cursor and mouse to highlight the appropriate line. Then, find the box labelled "As a faculty member..." and select the two boxes referring to faculty mentors. Then click on "Search." You should see a set of profiles of faculty both inside and outside your department who are willing to serve as your OpenSeminar Mentor. Send them an email message asking if they will mentor you as you complete the course.

Second, search for a PEER MENTOR. Peer mentors are graduate students who have completed the OpenSeminar course and volunteered to help guide others through it. Again, find the boxes below labelled "Discipline" and "Institution." In each one, use your cursor and mouse to highlight the appropriate line. Then, find the box labelled "As a student member..." and select both boxes referring to student mentors. You should see a set of profiles of students both inside and outside your institution who are willing to serve as your OpenSeminar Mentor.Ideally, find a peer mentor at your institution. If this is not possible, you may find someone at another institution. Once you have finished the course, we hope you will consider serving as a Peer Mentor.

Happy searching!
